A Man Called Shenandoah

This series, starring Robert Horton, aired from Sept. 1965 through Sept. 1966. Set in the post-Civil War west, the show followed a man, suffering from amnesia and known only as Shenandoah, as he attempts to learn his identity and why someone tried to kill him. Though short-lived, this show received excellent reviews and was a cut above the average western of the day. Mr. Horton said he always played this character with a "worried look in his eyes," and it is a rare episode where you'll find him even smiling. No "ending" was ever written for the show. The ratings were high, when the network wasn't 'pre-empting' it for holiday or sports specials, and it was expected to be renewed. Instead, the show was canceled on the last possible day the option could have been picked up.
